Not so many people know this, but Rory and I both come from a BMW dealership background. I was a Senior Tech, factory-trained, the works – and Rory was our aftersales manager (also BMW-trained).
During our time at the dealership we became increasingly frustrated: the constraints of corporate targets and time pressures had a negative effect on the level of detail and care we could put into our customers' bikes, and that didn’t sit well with us. These frustrations and constraints reached fever pitch around the time BMW released the R NineT, which also coincided with my involuntary helicopter ride away from Brands Hatch, putting paid to my semi-professional racing, and Pier City was born.
Our motto has always been “Bespoke Built, Factory Finish” – and we take that promise seriously. Factory level work standards for every customer, full bespoke build and oil service alike. Thanks to our dealer background and BMW training, we know our way around BMW special tools, BMW-specific ICOM diagnosis software/hardware, as well as the specific procedures and the importance of torque settings.
I can proudly bore even the most diehard BMW Motorrad enthusiast with the torque settings I have stored in my head, and that is the product of the last 10+ years dedicated to the BMW marque. We know what investment is required in both time and specialist equipment to work to the BMW standards for both mechanical and warranty longevity of the Motorrad machine.
Warranty
We have invested in specific Aftersales Online Software (AOS) and the compatible ICOM hardware, direct from BMW Motorrad that allows us to carry out the full suite of diagnostic requirements on the Motorrad platform, both for servicing and fault finding. Plus with Rory’s experience behind the paperwork side (+ tools) and my experience behind the mechanical procedure side of the warranty process, we offer a factory-level service with genuine OE parts that keeps a customer’s warranty valid.
We can tell you the full factory spec of your bike from when it left Berlin, if there’s any technical campaigns due/outstanding and even when your warranty runs out! Pretty neat and very much ‘full factory’.
Price
“You’re paying for the years not the minutes” – it’s a phrase you’ve no doubt heard before, and it’s true. But it’s also true that no matter who you are, or what bike you’re riding, price is always a factor. Some workshops will make the “quality first, price second” argument, while others prioritise keeping costs down with a “good enough” approach. Here at PCC, we won’t let quality or value slide.
We don’t have a flashy showroom inflating our hourly rate, nor do we have corporate targets pushing us to turn every bike around faster and faster. What we do have is 10 years of experience, factory training, speciality tooling, great coffee, an eye for the details and customer service at the forefront of our minds.
We charge a fair and competitive price that leaves customers happy, keen to come back next time, and 9 times out of 10 have the budget left over for a few PCC extras while they are in the workshop.
Stamps
An important part of a bike’s history is the service book. Not just a stamp and a rushed signature, but a detailed record of what has been done and when. After all, BMW makes it easy for us, with a tick box menu for the service items changed. But, that doesn’t mean every workshop will use it.
When we receive a new customer into the workshop with a service book that hasn’t been completed correctly, we have to return the bike to a full factory start point - Full Fluid Service and Safety Check. This way, we know that from that point onward, we can action the BMW service schedule (nicely explained by Rory here > BMW R9T Service Schedule Explained!). We ensure that when the bike is serviced at our workshop, the service entry is detailed, cross-referenced on our customer log and graced with a PCC service sticker and signature sign with care.
Parts, Service and Custom is what we are all about and it would be remiss of me not to mention that the parts we offer on the website, as well as the installs and builds we carry out in the workshop, are all compliant with your BMW warranty. Yep, even taking into account the complicated CAN & LIN bus systems! No errors, no functionality issues with any of the control systems.
Lastly, every bolt on every component we fit is swapped out for a Motorrad part numbered fastener. We even have a cupboard full of the exact electrical loom tape that is used on the assembly lines in Berlin, to ensure that when the seat and tank is lifted on your machine it comes home looking Berlin fresh! After all if it didn’t, it certainly wouldn’t be bespoke built bike, and most certainly wouldn’t be a factory finish.
